History of Yoga

Yoga is derived from the Sanskrit word “yuj,” which means “to join” (the best of oneself or oneness with oneself), and it links the mind and the soul. Yoga is said to have originated in the Indus Valley Civilization (Indus Valley Civilization). As a result of our search, we discovered that the folks there used to practise yoga. The physical postures and postures depicted in the Indus Valley were very different from the yoga practised today.

According to Western experts, yoga’s origins are thought to be older than 500 AD. According to him, yoga has existed since the beginning of Buddhism, but we know that yoga existed before 5000 years thanks to the discoveries of Harappa and Mohenjodaro.

Yoga was done in Vedic times to acquire focus and to overcome worldly troubles. Yoga is detailed in four sections in the Mahabharata and Bhagavad-Gita. According to the Mahabharata and Bhagavad-Gita, “a person who has humility, respect, and sympathy for others, only a man may achieve a greater condition.” Jnana Yoga, Bhakti Yoga, Karma Yoga, and Raja Yoga are all types of yoga.

People throughout the classical and post-classical eras blended yoga with physical postures and breathing methods, emphasising meditation and samadhi. Following that, Patanjali Rishi focused his concentration on Raja Yoga. Asanas, body and mind hygiene, kriyas, and pranayama became important to Patanjali’s disciples after him.

Swami Vivekananda introduced yoga to the globe in contemporary times when he spoke about its qualities at a Parliament of Religions in Chicago. Many yogis followed him, including Maharishi Mahesh, Yogi Paramahansa, and Yogananda Raman Maharishi.
